NORTHERN STAR SCOUTING AND COVID19 INFORMATION

ALL IN-PERSON SCOUTING MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES AND CAMPS SUSPENDED FOR GROUPS OF MORE THAN 10 (5/15/2020)

Northern Star Scouting will take a small step away from Scouting at Home, and toward in-person den, patrol, and any group gatherings as of Monday, May 18. Per the Governor of Minnesota’s orders, and without conflict with state standards in Wisconsin, groups of young people and adult leaders that number ten or fewer and follow all social distancing (including 6′ spacing) and self-screening safety standards may again meet in person for merit badge programs, roadside cleanups, Eagle service projects, and more.

As of now, any meeting of more than ten people in any single meeting space or outdoor gathering is not allowed by state and BSA standards. Weekend camps are still closed through at least June 1, and it is still our intent to operate our summer resident and day camps as scheduled. If camp cannot be held, we will provide impactful and creative Scouting experiences that provide the highest possible value in comparison to summer resident camp, and if some camp sessions are delayed we will work to find solutions to get every young person to camp this summer, later in the summer.

Northern Star Scouting continues to operate primarily in a virtual capacity following State of Minnesota, Wisconsin and CDC guidelines, with a limited number of staff returning to the Leadership Center starting May 18. Here is a status summary of announcements that appear in detail on these pages:

  • All units are to discontinue in-person meetings, activities and camps that have more than 10 people. Gatherings of 10 people or less are allowed beginning May 18 (see above for more guidelines regarding this).
  • All council camps are closed at least until June 1.
  • Base Camp Leadership Center is closed to outside visitors until at least June 1 and Scout Shop are also closed until June 1.
  • We are preparing for a traditional, in-person summer camping program within the best-practice health and safety guidelines as well as preparing for alternative camping experiences, should they prove necessary.
