Did you hear the news?

Whether you’re a working journalist helping inform the public or simply a fan of the world’s greatest magazine for boys, you are formally invited to join the Boys’ Life team at the 2017 National Jamboree.

Boys’ Life is looking for any of the following:

  • Journalism merit badge counselors.
  • Anyone with knowledge and experience in the fields of broadcast, print or online journalism.
  • Anyone who would like to join the BL team!

It’s no exaggeration to say this will be one of the most exciting and rewarding staff positions at the 2017 National Jamboree.

What is the Boys’ Life Media Experience?

The Boys’ Life Media Experience (BLME), which is making its jamboree debut in 2017, will allow youth jamboree participants the opportunity to actively participate in various forms of storytelling and journalism-related communication.

The hands-on program will teach Scouts and Venturers communication and production skills by allowing them to see, touch and engage in the process of developing written, audio and video news segments.

Hometown Media

The publishing side is called Hometown Media, where Scouts will file written news reports to their hometown newspaper or any preapproved news website.

Scouts and Venturers will roam the jamboree, finding interesting stories and photos to send to newspapers, magazines and websites.

Jamboree Live!

The broadcast side is called Jamboree Live!, where participants will cover the jamboree by contributing to a live Internet video stream showcasing multiple aspects of the jamboree.

Scouts and Venturers can operate state-of-the-art equipment, including HD cameras and professional editing software, to broadcast their stories to the world.

Scouts can file live news reports in front of the camera and also wirelessly contribute their own videos and photos shot on their smartphones.

How to join the team

Your jamboree registration process begins at the official jamboree website. That’s also where you’ll find general information about serving on staff.
