BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) for Cub Leaders – Sept 12 – 13th
BALOO training is adult Cub Scout leader training for leading pack camping trips. All Cub Scout packs must have at least one BALOO trained leader on pack camping trips. Having two trained leaders gives you backup coverage in case of unexpected illness or schedule changes. Sign up for BALOO training with a friend and let us help you get your pack get ready for camping season!
Why should Cub leaders be BALOO trained?
- One BALOO trained leader is required on all Cub Scout camping trips.
- BALOO training ensures your camping outings are covered under BSA insurance.
- BALOO trained Webelos den leaders can take their den camping on its own without the pack
- Training gives you resources for creating a fun camping program and saving money!
BALOO is a two part course. An online prerequisite course covers most of the classroom material with basic information on the Cub Scout outdoor program goals and administration. This should be completed before the in-person training event, which is an overnight camping trip. This covers safety and practical event and meal planning, then moves on to focus on hands-on skill building in a series of round robins. You’ll play games, sing songs, and try your hand at traditional scouting skills such as knots, map and compass, first aid, hiking, campfires, and more with instructors who have a passion for their subjects. Along the way, you will connect with other Cub Scout leaders and share wisdom, laughter, and a (hopefully) beautiful 24 hours in the woods.
