Ohio Scouts collect more than 23,000 pairs of shoes for people in need

You’ve heard the saying: Good shoes take you to good places.

So imagine the places more than 23,000 pairs of shoes will go when donated to people in need after the Dan Beard Council’s Soles4Souls shoe drive.

This impressive Good Turn served as a way for the Ohio council to encourage partnerships between Scouts and chartered organizations in honor of Scout Sunday (Feb. 5).

“The council-wide Soles4Souls project is a great way for our Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to involve the community, and make a meaningful impact by helping people in need around the world,” says Bob Taylor, chairman of the shoe drive.

Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers promoted the drive in the weeks leading up to Scout Sunday. Their efforts paid off: 23,000-plus pairs of gently used shoes were collected at churches, and will be donated to Soles4Souls, a global nonprofit that collects and distributes shoes and clothing to people living in poverty.
