What is a council contingent?

A contingent is a large group made up of youth and adults from multiple troops and crews throughout the council. A contingent also prepares for the extensive trip together and travels as a group to New Mexico! Units that don’t have enough interest to form their own crew or did not get space in the Philmont lottery will often take advantage of a council contingent.

When is the 2017 Contingent?

Our 2017 contingent will be at Philmont from July 1 – 13 with one or two days of travel on each end. The cost is estimated to be $1475 per person and will include Philmont fees, travel (bus), food, possible field trips and a contingent shirt.

Our council has 120 youth and adult spots available in the 2017 contingent to Philmont Scout Ranch! Will you be in one of them?

Can I just go on the 2016 Contingent instead?

Sorry, the 2016 contingent is currently full. A Philmont trek is one of the most popular outings for Scouts and it can also take well over a year to really prepare for a high adventure trip to Philmon
