A SPRING CAMPING WEEKEND DESIGNED FOR TROOPS AND WEBELOS DENS

Scouts BSA Troops, Webelos Dens, and friends are invited to participate in one of Northern Star Scouting’s two Spring Camporee-style events on the weekend of May 14 or May 21. This year’s “Webelos Recruitoree” events will provide a fun Camporee experience for all ages of Scouts and opportunities for Webelos Scouts and their parents to participate and learn about the program at the Troop level. Scouts can also invite a friend to attend and learn about Scouting.

The theme is “Let the Scout Games Begin!” Participants can expect:

• A day full of games, competitions and challenges for all Scouts and friends
• An opportunity to complete a few rank requirements
• A Troop camping and cooking experience for Webelos Scouts and friends
• Opportunities for Webelos parents to learn about Scouting in the Troop
• An opportunity for Troops to show their stuff to prospective members

Webelos Dens will be paired with a participating Scouts BSA Troop for the event. The Webelos will form a Patrol with two experienced Scouts serving as their Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. At this event they will work together to manage typical camp tasks including cooking for themselves independent of their adult leaders and parents who will camp in the same site but work as their own adult Patrol.

Troops and Packs that want to be paired together should coordinate to choose the weekend and identify in their registrations that they would like to be paired with one another. However, Troops and Webelos Dens are encouraged to participate even if they don’t have a defined partner. We will match up unaffiliated Dens and Troops for the experience of this event.

Webelos adults can look forward to an information session about the transition from Cub Scouting to the Scouts BSA program and how the Patrol Method and youth leadership works in the context of the Scouts BSA program. Of course, informal discussions with the Troop adults in the campsite will also be a great way to get your questions answered.

In addition to promoting recruiting of Webelos to the Scouts BSA program, this event is a great opportunity to recruit new youth to the program. Webelos and Scouts BSA youth can invite friends to attend this event. Webelos age youth would need to attend with a parent.
