We owe a huge thank you to our host units, Troops 206, 537, 567, and 571 for putting on a great weekend program. But a special THANK YOU is warranted to Troop 206 from Orono, not only for serving as a host, but also for going above and beyond their host responsibility by bringing in over thirty-five pounds of fish for the cooking demos. Everyone who wanted to learn different cooking methods for preparing fresh fish was able to jump in and get their turn in the outdoor kitchen. They also got to enjoy a great fish snack! The demo and tasting event included home-made potato chips and Dutch-oven desserts to try! It’s was clear, NOBODY was hungry after such a great spread!
Certainly, everyone who attended enjoyed the fantastic program and the great facilities at Camp Stearns. Thank you to all the attendees, parents, and everyone else who made this a great event. Also, thank you Lake Minnetonka District staff for working together with everyone to deliver yet another fantastic experience for our youth.
We look forward to seeing you again at our next large district event, Fall Camporee 2017. Watch for details coming soon!
Thank you

Fish ‘n Fry 2017!
Over 200 Scouts and Webelos from twenty-one (21) units participated in for this year’s Lake Minnetonka District Spring Camporee. It was an event that combined both fishing AND cooking, two of just about everyone’s favorite activities.
The beautiful lakes and woods of Camp Stearns provided the scenery for the camporee and the new Tonkawa Lodge was our headquarters for the event. (That new lodge smell is just so nice!)
Many Scouts enjoyed wetting their lines on Saturday, but unfortunately, the fish just weren’t biting yet. Many Scouts went home with empty stringers. It was still a gorgeous weekend to be out on the water, and as they always say “there’s no such thing as bad day fishing!” Those that didn’t do well fishing had a chance to interact with a miniature version of the whoppers that still lurk in the lake by participating in the minnow races. Not quite.
The Scouts also worked on merit badges, enjoyed the Muskie fishing and fly tying exhibits, the field games, and learned various cooking methods for the many more fish they’ll catch in the future. The weekend was capped off with an entertaining campfire that included presentations of awards for best efforts in fishing, best photography, and the Fish ‘N Fry cooking competition.
