We could not have had a better weekend for this year’s Lake Minnetonka District Spring Camporee.  A great crowd of 180 Boy Scouts and Webelos participated in a super event that celebrated cooking which highlighted some of our favorite ingredients – SPAM AND BACON! Bear Cub Scouts were also invited and had great time learning about what their Scouting future will hold.

The beautiful lakes and woods of Baker Park provided the scenery for the weekend where Scouts experienced games, sampled different foods, sharpened their cooking skills, and shared fellowship with Scouts and leaders from across the district.

Our host units and district committee members staffed a number  of great activities and competitions, including SPAM tasting, Egg Toss, Survival Bracelets, Pancake Stacking, Blind-folded Sandwich Making, the Chop-Stick Challenge, Melon Carving, and of course, an Iron-Chef cooking competition.  We even had a mobile climbing tower set up for those that wanted to test their aerial prowess! Thanks go out to Nick Fasching from Troop 337 for providing the climbing tower and working with the Scouts throughout the day on Saturday.

The weekend was capped off with an entertaining campfire that included the presentations of awards for the challenge winners, and the presentation of a brand new, cast-iron Dutch Oven as the prize for the Iron Chef competition.

We owe a huge thank you to our scheduled host units Troops 337, 345, 175, 192, 202 and 424 for putting on a great weekend program. However, a special THANK YOU is warranted to Troop 283 – Wayzata, not only for serving as an additional host troop, but for going above and beyond to staff a large part of the games and demonstrations.  We certainly appreciate their dedication and hard work.

Thanks go out to our district committee members for working together with everyone to deliver another fantastic event for the our youth, especially, Brett Schneider, David Olson, Jim Lindfors, Brian Klein, Tina Ramacier, Stu Smith, Millissa Stanfa-brew, and Julie Terpstra.
