Your participation in training not only reflects your concern about children's safety in this society, but also your willingness to take steps toward halting child abuse and its detrimental effects.
* Online Training - do not rely on the BSA training website to notify Lake Minnetonka District that you completed the online course. Instead, please contact the Lake Minnetonka District Training Chair,
- Educating Scouting volunteers, parents, and Scouts to aid in the detection and prevention of child abuse
- Establishing leader-selection procedures to prevent offenders from entering the BSA leadership ranks.
- Establishing policies that create barriers to child abuse within the program.
- Encouraging Scouts to report improper behavior to identify offenders quickly.
- Swift removal and reporting of alleged offenders.
- The pamphlet is in the front of Cub Scout and Boy Scout handbooks.
- Parents and children do the exercises together.
- This helps fosters a sense of open communication between parent and child. Parents need to help their children realize that parents are resources for help in solving personal problems. In this way, children feel freer to let their parents know of attempted or actual abuse.
- "Six Sure Steps" a guide for leader selection is provided by the council, at no charge, to help select qualified leaders.
- Video - In addition, the BSA has an 18-minute video.
- Ventures III, provides specific guidance for leadership selection by heads of chartered organizations, chartered organizations representatives, and organizing and unit committees.
- REQUIREMENTS: You must complete training every two (2) years. We require our adult leaders to renew their Youth Protection Training, either in person or online, every two years to keep current with updated information. *
- CLASSROOM TRAINING: At Lake Minnetonka District, Youth Protection Training is offered as part of the classroom curriculum for all levels of adult leader training.
- ONLINE TRAINING: Even though Youth Protection Training is offered online, our training staff is committed to the realization that this course should be taken in person whenever possible in order to facilitate the sharing of personal knowledge and experiences.
